Coach Q-Bowman relationship sparks Habs speculation

08:27 AM ET 05.08 | As the Blackhawks were packing up the ship for the offseason, Stan Bowman was asked about his relationship with Joel Quenneville. Was it any more strained or different than past seasons? "Our relationship wasn't strained at all," Bowman said. ... Of course, that doesn't mean there wasn't some discord at some point. Bowman intimated there may have been some during the "challenge" of the Hawks' nine-game losing streak. A sense of friction is one reason why it's being speculated that the Hawks wouldn't stand in Quenneville's way if the Montreal Canadiens came calling for his services. As of last week, the Canadiens are run by GM Marc Bergevin, the Hawks' former assistant GM and a close ally of Quenneville's.

Chicago wouldn't be a bad place for him if Q leaves for MTL

Yeah, they haven't had a coach they could really hate since Mike Keenan left.

Well, Duhryl was there after him.

Although, I guess now we have no choice but to praise him as a genius I suppose...

It's a retread kinda league when it comes to coaching Danny. GM's and owners have a fear of stepping out of the box and giving a young guy from the minors or college a chance instead opting for a guy with experience at the NHL level even if he hasn't had a whole lot of success. Some teams are reluctant to give an NHL assistant the job for the same reason.

For example look at the disaster that happened in Boston when they passed over their highly successful AHL coach (Laviolette) to hire Dave Lewis because of his championship pedigree with Detroit. Laviolette goes to Carolina and wins a Cup while Lewis flames out in one year and the Bruins end up paying him $12-15 million to sit home for the next 3 years.

I'd love to see Rotten Ronnie in Montreal. As a matter of fact I'm taking donations so I can send him a package of Rosetta Stone tapes so he can learn French.

Too funny. If D. Sutter ends up winning the Cup in L A, we're going to have to medicate a few of our friends here at FN.

If Coach Q goes to Montreal, I'll bet no one will care if he speaks a word of French.

Exactly. For every Bylsma there are five Hitchcocks, Boudreaus, Sutters, Carlyles and Renneys.

He was an assistant in Quebec City and coached AHL in Moncton. I'm sure he picked up a little during those periods.

exactly. But those guys were "new ideas" once too. This happens all the time in all sports.
Dick Williams (baseball) managed how many teams?
Even Mike Keenan...what, 5 teams for that weasel?

I don't think door greeters want to be welcomed by the Rotten one.

Ugh. Bad morning. Customers don't want to be greeted, is what I meant.

Everyone has to be bled in somehow, of course. But you look at the names that have been linked with MTL, and it's all guys who've been around the block - Q, Vigneault, Crawford, Wilson (yes i'm making this happen)...

Geez, with a name like Quenneville, I find it hard to believe he didn't grow up around the language.
