08:05 AM ET 05.09 | Apparently there was more to Cris Carter during his playing days than catching touchdowns. [Carter] says he put "bounties" on opposing players as a form of protection during his 16-year NFL career. Carter, currently an ESPN NFL analyst, said Tuesday night on "Hill and Schlereth" on ESPN Radio that he would offer money to teammates to take out players he thought were trying to take him out. "I'm guilty of (bounties) -- I mean, first time I've ever admitted it -- but I put a bounty on guys before," Carter told the show. "I put bounties on guys. If a guy tries to take me out, a guy takes a cheap shot on me? I put a bounty on him right now!" When asked whether the bounties were financial, Carter said: "Absolutely."

Carter should've waited until he's actually in the HOF to let this cat out of the bag.

Helluva thing to admit, some skeletons are best left in the closet.

May 9, 2012  08:12 AM ET

OK. But, it's a lot different when it's organized by a team's DC than when it's done by one player on his own.

May 9, 2012  08:15 AM ET

Well... This will give the former players leverage in their lawsuit.

Cris Carter has always been about Cris Carter.

Oh Cris, you're retired. What an egomaniac.

Great player, but one of the all-time jerks in the NFL. And that's a lofty achievement.

May 9, 2012  08:34 AM ET

Well he wasn't going to do anything about it himself so why not pay a teammate to do his dirty work? What a dirt bag!

He went to Tonya Harding's Dirt Bag School.

It seems that having a ticket is the only way he'll be getting in for a while. Maybe he can get a seat in the front row, so he can see how happy the new inductees are.

Tomorrow's headline will redact this: "Carter, currently an ESPN NFL analyst"
and replace it with this: Carter, formerly an ESPN NFL analyst."
