08:06 AM ET 05.09 | President Mike Holmgren took the occasion of a radio appearance to open up a race for the Browns' starting quarterback role. [Holmgren]stressed Tuesday that although the team expects rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden to start this season, he'll still have to beat out Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace for the job. "We drafted a young quarterback that we think can come in and play right away, but we're not just going to hand him the football," the Browns president said. .... "I still love Colt McCoy [but] we had a chance to get a mature quarterback who has a chance to come in and contribute right away. Whether that happens or not we have to let it play out."

well; did they draft a "young" QB or a "mature" QB?, maybe he means we drafted an old rookie... maybe he doesn't know what he means, it is the Browns after all.

"We drafted a young quarterback that we think can come in and play right away"

The young quarterback they drafted is 3 years older than the young quarterback they already had.

"I still love Colt McCoy [but] we had a chance to get a mature quarterback" who hopefully won't let his daddy shoot off his mouth to the media.

Then, in the next sentence, he refers to Weeden as a 'mature quarterback.' Hmmm...

Yeah. Isn't "MILF" supposed to come between "young" and "mature?"

I am getting a mixed message here. We "expect" Weeeden to start but we "love" Colt. I think he means we can still be "freinds."

I think McCoy may fit into the 9ers system. You've got a coach experienced at the QB position and look at his patience with Smith. I think that'd be a reasonable trade as things progress. Send the Browns one of those backups and another special teams player for McCoy and watch him develop there.

Ah yes, the famous vote of confidence by the coach. It's the closest thing the NFL has to the kiss of death.

It's a newspaper (ha-ha).

In Cleveland, they use it for training the Dawgs.

Hopefully Colt will be acquired by a football team soon.

Rookie Brandon Weeden will be 29 in early October. That is just plain weird.
