08:30 AM ET 05.09 | Mike Haviland paid the price Tuesday for the Blackhawks' special teams futility. Coach Joel Quenneville lowered the boom on the man he inherited to stand on one side of him on the bench, choosing to oust Haviland and keep Mike Kitchen in the fold. "(Bowman) did offer me the opportunity for the first time since I've been here (to) make a coaching change," Quenneville said. "It was not an easy decision. It was tough on Mike. I'm respectful for the job that he did. It's not the blame game here." ... "It was my decision," Quenneville said. "It could have been status quo as well. As far as who comes in, I still have the options to bring in one guy or even more than one."

this is almost interesting

Mike Haviland is out and Mike Kitchen stays? Too bad it wasn't the other way around. Then the headline could have been,
"Kitchen Fire."

Don't say that around Rangers fans, it makes them nervous ;)

Yes because that .901 Save% isn't an issue. Oh yea they fixed that by re- upping Emery. Bowman by name doesn't automatically make it a Scotty.

Interesting that the turning point in this series could be that 4:00 PP on Monday.

A poor PP hasn't hurt LA so far in the playoffs.

it becomes forgivable when you have a goalie playing lights (red lights that is) out

Remember the Team that won the Cup last year , brutal PP but the best in the league 5 on 5 and great Goaltending ..

Thomas was the main reason they won. Credit is due to him for that. The whole team was great, but it was the goaltending that put them over the edge last year.... What happened this year???

Three simple things ..

1. Energy or lack of it (Hunger)
2.Horton , Ryder and Recchi
3. Thomas while good was not better than Holtby ..

For whatever reason their power play was abysmal all year and it's mind-blowing when you realize how much star power was on the first unit of the power play (Keith, Seabrook, Hossa, Kane and Toews). I guess someone had to take the fall for it. Nevertheless, theyre sitting at home because of goaltending, plain and simple. Schneider has to be their #1 target this offseason unless they feel Salak has developed enough in the minors to step in as the starter (I heard he had mediocre season). Here's tr thing: they resigned Emery, obviously to be the backup and don't plan on bringing Crawford back so there has to be some plan in place...right?
