08:04 AM ET 05.10 | Extensive damage to Vikings running back Adrian Peterson's knee isn't dulling his optimism. [Peterson] said he is "light years" ahead of where he was when he started rehabilitating his surgically repaired left knee. And he has no doubt he will be ready when Minnesota opens the season Sept. 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Metrodome. "That first game against Jacksonville, I plan on being back, so that will be disappointing if I'm not," said Peterson, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament Dec. 24 against the Washington Redskins and had reconstructive surgery six days later. Minimal recovery from an ACL tear typically is six months. ... "I've been ahead of the schedule since Day One," Peterson said.

It's still a last place team.

I watched the interview last night on ESPN. I really like this kid and hope good things happen for him. Vikes need to get their **** together.

May 10, 2012  08:13 AM ET

Good to hear he'll be back.

May 10, 2012  08:14 AM ET

Hopefully Peterson won't just have "minimal recovery." No wonder newspapers are dead. They can't even proofread.

Don't rush it. You have the big contract and your team currently sucks

Yeah...but one would wonder for how long before he goes down again?

Peterson is a class act, wish him well.

Me too... AP is a good dude.

I always hate it when a standout player like Peterson gets stuck on a dysfunctional team like the Vikings. It just seems like such a waste of talent.

Didn't we have this discussion with the release of Longwell?

Only a couple seasons removed from a NFC Championship game. Next.

Adrian can claim whatever he wants, I still ain't drafting him in the first round for my fantasy team this year! Maybe in 2013, dude.

May 10, 2012  09:38 AM ET

Maybe AP should have never said his old contract that paid him 4.5 mil a year was like a slaves wage? He said that during or right before the lockout. Blowing his knee out was nothing more than karma kickin' him in his a**.

May 10, 2012  09:44 AM ET

Good Morning Boys!!! Hope Adrian is ok, he's one of the Good Guys!!!

May 10, 2012  09:53 AM ET

He DOES appear to be a genuine good guy. Hope he recovers fast as he wishes.

I believe that is known as Barry Sanders syndrome, and it's a terrible affliction.

Viks are my squad and all...but we should have traded AP last year! Now it's too late. He's not carried us anywhere at all, should have traded one player for multiple players!

Yup..you never know when one player may create a dynasty (see Herschel Walker). sorry man.

I hope now A P is getting back to normal I hope he realizes there was only one Jim Brown and he starts to run around guys instead of running over them so his career can last longer.
