The NBA's most compelling player

08:08 AM ET 05.10 | There are the highlights, of course -- Rajon Rondo's lane drives and the nonchalant beauty of his passes, but he and his game are also complicated. [He's] not considered the best point guard in basketball; you can argue among yourselves if that's Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook, Regis Philbin or someone else. But I'd argue it's this roller coaster that makes Rondo so compelling'the genius swirled in with the shortcomings, the baffling sputters that follow jaw-dropping maneuvers. Rondo delivers something different -- more elusive, unpredictable, an acquired taste not for shy stomachs. He's an electric enigma, and he may be the least boring player in the NBA.

No mention of Tony Parker as one of the best point guards. AGAIN!

The thread diidn't say "one of the best." It saiid the best point guard in basketball. Parker has had a great season, but certainly noone would take Parker before Rose or Chris Paul...except maybe you. [

I just wish he had been more decisive with the ball in his hands during the last 9 seconds of Game 5. That's part and parcel of the maturation process he needs to go through to be considered one of the best PG's in the game.

I think he should get some slack on this. A surprising interception of out of bounds pass and then 10 seconds to make the play. How many time has he successfully made it to the rim when a big guy was the only impediment?

* would LOVE him in NY

Oh, of course you would jgb......you're a smart guy!

The Celtics would be completely foolish to NOT build around Rondo once the Big 3 "expire" as you put it. It's not impossible to see Rondo becoming the best PG in the game over the next couple of years. We all know his jump shot & FT % must improve, but it's starting to and if it continues......look out.

if the celts trade Rondo, they better hope they get nothing less than a drama free and super healthy dwight howard in return or something to that effect, cause if you trade rondo, your obviously deciding to completely dismantle your defense and give up on your offense. anyone see how tired Pierce looks sometimes? he cant keep his play at a high intensity level forever. they need Rondo. Go Boston, lets finish of ATL once and for good tonight

I thnk that ALL east coast players get more attention..than enywhere....except for LA. If the Thunder or Spurs were in the east...they would be gods !!! Off the subject ..but ...so what ??!!!

rondo is the best point guard in the league...

May 10, 2012  03:07 PM ET

You're right, he's the most compelling, but not because of inconsistency, that's taking the easy cliche. It's that he does things nobody else does, and he plays with the most fire while appearing the shyest. Rondo a Top 10 player in the League, overall. Look at his impact.

Is there a PG or any player more likely to get a triple-double? The closest (in terms of getting a Trip-D) may be LBJ ?

Would love to see Rondo go on for further years in Boston, yes he's got some Attitude issues, but let's face it, it's used as part of his game, & his attitude makes him more effective in the game (with exception to the rediculous ejection against the Hawks)
