08:13 AM ET 05.10 | The Red Sox have helped try the patience not only of their fans this season, but also manager Bobby Valentine, who reached his boiling point Wednesday. [Valentine] was incensed at home plate umpire Jim Nelson, who ruled that Marlon Byrd didn't pull back his bat in time to avoid being hit by a pitch on a ninth-inning bunt attempt. ... [Said Valentine:] "That's a [darn] shame. (Expletive) umpire can't make a right call and get help? It's a [darn] shame is what it is. Be stubborn. It's not his job to call the play. Just get help. If they can't get it right, they should ask for help. Why the (expletive) is it so hard to ask for help at the end of the game when they could do it at the beginning of the game?"

Managers like Earl Weaver and Lou Pinilla made their living being in the umpires faces. This is one of the things that happens when you're not winning. The Red Sox don't seem to have what the concept of being a team is all about, they just look like 25 guys who's only incentive is to get a paycheck

Exactly how isn't it the guy in the clubhouse's job to deal with a guy who claims injury then goes and does physical activity despite said "injury"?
It's always Beckett, it's always bad, and Bobby was brought in supposedly to clean this crap up. If they let him get away with it, they're hopeless.
