08:13 AM ET 05.10 | The Red Sox have helped try the patience not only of their fans this season, but also manager Bobby Valentine, who reached his boiling point Wednesday. [Valentine] was incensed at home plate umpire Jim Nelson, who ruled that Marlon Byrd didn't pull back his bat in time to avoid being hit by a pitch on a ninth-inning bunt attempt. ... [Said Valentine:] "That's a [darn] shame. (Expletive) umpire can't make a right call and get help? It's a [darn] shame is what it is. Be stubborn. It's not his job to call the play. Just get help. If they can't get it right, they should ask for help. Why the (expletive) is it so hard to ask for help at the end of the game when they could do it at the beginning of the game?"

Rain again today. Sox loss last night. Another typical New England day.

Managers like Earl Weaver and Lou Pinilla made their living being in the umpires faces. This is one of the things that happens when you're not winning. The Red Sox don't seem to have what the concept of being a team is all about, they just look like 25 guys who's only incentive is to get a paycheck

QUOTE(#4):

Figured he'd be cursing at Josh Beckett today more than the umps...

That's the general manager's job to deal with that, not Valentine.

This years team is trying very hard to make fans forget about last Septembers collapse, for all the wrong reasons.

Bobby Valentine is an a##, but he is probably right in what he said.

wish they wouldn't censor speeches like this. Be fun to hear.

QUOTE(#9):

It is very much Valentine's responsibility as well. But, how do we even know Beckett was even playing golf when supposedly he was just seen on the golf course?

you're right. Maybe he was cutting the lawn. What kind of loser goes to a golf course to hang out? People who do that should suffer Krotch rot.

I still say the umpires need to be tested for drugs because all of the blown calls they have made so far this year.

Maybe they should bring the beer back into the club house.
