08:26 AM ET 05.10 | According to his agent, Larry Robinson wouldn't mind joining the Canadiens as an assistant coach. Robinson, who currently works for the New Jersey Devils, would be a good fit with the Canadiens, Don Cape told TVA Sports. But Montreal would need to ask permission to talk to Robinson and that wouldn't be granted until after the Devils season comes to an end. "Larry would like to return to Montreal because the right people are in place, the conditions are good and because it is the right job for him," Cape said. "We know Marc Bergevin and the Molson family, these are professional people." ... Right now, [Randy Cunneyworth] and Randy Ladoceur are Montreal's two assistant coaches but that didn't stop Cape from lobbying.

He'd be a great assistant for incoming coach Ron Wilson.

Why isn't Robinson being considered for the head coaching job? He has accomplished more than any of the other candidates mentioned and his HOF career gives him the cache' that the others clearly lack.

My guess is he doesn't want it. I think you get to an age sometimes where the stress, pressure and time commitment of head coaching just doesn't appeal anymore for some guys. No doubt Robinson has been one of the better coaches of recent decades.

No defenseman could clear out a crease for his goaltender like Robinson.

because he's competent.
And the "french" thing isn't an issue for him, he has the history.
And he looks like the guy from "Whose Line is it Anyway?"

I see, so it makes too much sense and therefore they won't do it.

Got it ;)

I like the idea of Big Larry going to Montreal. Whoever gets the head gig, will have an excellent man to work with. Looks like Montreal is looking forward to it's past, to try and right the ship.

They're saying all the right things in Vancouver about Alain Vigneault, but I wonder if he could be in the mix?
