Saban on playoff proposal: '[Heck] no'

08:21 AM ET 05.11 | Nick Saban took the occasion of a nationally syndicated radio show appearance to make abundantly clear his take on a playoff model that would exclude any teams that don't win their conference championship. "The one thing that I think is that people want to see the best teams play. They don't want a bunch of conference champions to end up playing in a championship game," Saban said. "If we do that, did we accomplish what we set out to accomplish? [Heck] no." Saban said he believes much of the talk regarding conference champion-only playoff models is being driven by conference commissioners who are looking to give their own league an advantage rather than trying to do what's best for the game as a whole.

This statement is true. However, he should have stopped at "advantage" because those seeking multiple teams (aka other than conference champions) are also looking to give their own league an advantage...can you say SEC. So, all conference commissioners are looking to give their own league an advantage...surprise, surprise, surprise.

"They don't want a bunch of conference champions to end up playing in a championship game," Saban said.

Hmmmm..... Isn't that what every other sport does? So I guess the NFL shouldn't have the American conference champ against the National Conferemce champ; MLB have the National league champ vs American league champ; the NBA have Western vs Eastern champs, ad infinitum.

You wanted a playoff, that is what it is.

He's a **** who benefited from a flawed system. Of course he doesn't want to change it. But the idea the 2 best teams are or were in the MNC game is laughable when those teams are determined by people deciding who looks prettiest.

Good grief, can you cry anymore?

But, as has been pointed out before, you can have a noncoference champion in the Superbowl.

So you're just as wrong as he is then. Interesting.

Of course he is right, unless you are willing to say a team that wins its conference with two losses is eligible and a team with one loss that does not win its conference is not eligible.

What do you do with an Independent? a free ride with one loss? Is there anybody who thinks the best team has not been the best team the last many years?

And I know some here won't believe me, but I'd think EXACTLY the same no matter the circumstances. I did not give a crap in 2006 who went. If I'm completely honest, I probably was pulling against Florida, except for maybe I was against Michigan or OSU more and Florida made my conference and hence my team better looking. Other than that, put them both back together, wgas.
