08:30 AM ET 05.11 | Believe it or not, there was a time Martin Brodeur played a backup role. [There's] already been a lot of discussion in the area of a possible Devils-Rangers series and their memorable seven-game showdown in the 1994 conference finals. [Brodeur] is the only player still active from that 1994 series, but his postseason history against the Rangers goes back two years earlier than that to a seven-game slugfest between the rivals in the 1992 Patrick Division Semifinals. ... It was during that series that Brodeur first learned to dislike the rivals from across the Hudson. "I was part of the whole seven games," Brodeur said. "I was on the bench. I was in the locker room. I got to hate the Rangers early on, got the taste of it."
