Xanders departure long time coming

08:03 AM ET 05.11 | It isn't after every draft that a GM gets his walking papers, but that was the fate of Brian Xanders in Denver. We hear the move was a long time coming in the team's front office. Xanders played a minimal role in free agency, especially the recruitment and signing of QB Peyton Manning, with executive VP of football operations John Elway taking the lead. Elway also took an expanded role in the Broncos' draft this season, doing more scouting and having the final say in which players the team selected. That left Xanders in no-man's-land, as a general manager without much to manage. Moving forward, the team will not fill Xanders' position in the front office.

He probably enjoyed the paycheck while Elway did all the work. Never even heard of him.

The X-Files. The truth is out there.

And, apparantly, so is his resume.

I just don't see how you can be a GM and sit and do nothing. He should have been nervous about his job as soon as they hired Elway. Stepped up his game. I can't see not scouting, not attending the draft. What was he doing? I want to read his resume now.

I'm not sure Elway is going to be much better. Time will tell.

If the Peyton Manning gamble works out, Elway will look like a genius, until Peyton is no longer a Bronco. Then he'll have to figure it out on his own.

He played and worked for the Falcons for several years. His last job with the Falcons was IT director. When Blank took over the team he left, and became GM in Denver. He was Josh McDaniels puppet and he no experience in scouting players. He was unprofessional jerk and should have never been hired by Denver. Elway took over and Xanders was told to get him coffee.
