08:13 AM ET 05.11 | The mayor of Columbus, Michael B. Coleman, has made the NBA aware that the city is interested in a basketball team. "Up until recently, our arena situation was not stable," Coleman spokesman Dan Williamson said [Wednesday]. "Now that that changed, the mayor felt it was time to position ourselves to be on the NBA's radar. The NBA needs to know more about us, so he has had conversations with NBA officials." ... Stern has said that league expansion is not an option. That means Columbus would have to lure a team from another city. The most-viable option appears to be the Sacramento Kings, whose owners have expressed a desire to relocate while battling city officials there over money.

Somehow, I don't think the Maloofs are looking at Columbus, Ohio as the stopping point for their basketball franchise.

This franchise was, at one time, the Cincinnati Royals. There's a kind of symmetry there.

They did not go out of business, they became the Kansas City Kings, then the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, then the Kings of humor in Northern California......
How fitting that this team seems to find the middle sized markets where they would be the only draw.

Is that Columbus Georgia or is that Columbus Ohio? Most of us is assumming its Ohio. That would mean another professional sports team the the great state of Ohio where they've won exactly how many sports titles in how many years. This list would continue to grow in that respect. In college sports Ohio is awesome.........not so much in professional sports, at least not the past several decades or more. Good luck anyways Ohio.

Never happen! The Grizzlies considered Columbus when they were leaving Vancouver. This city will never adopt anything that would steal thunder from Suckeye football..

Forget about it. The last guy I know that left Zoo York for Columbus, is on suicide watch. I've been trying to get him to wait. In a few months, he'll be bored to death.

I can't see why Free Agents wouldn't want to come there. Doesn't Columbus OH already have some of the highest paid athletes?
