Who'll coach U.S. Olympic team?

10:12 AM ET 05.13 | John Tortorella;s image has taken a beating in the Stanley Cup playoffs and if he had any ambition to coach the U.S. Olympic team in 2014, well, he can probably forget about it now. Tortorella's very short, snarky, combative press conferences have made for fine television moments - if that kind of thing makes you laugh - but it hardly sets him up to represent his country as a leader in an event where major media responsibilities are just part of the daily interaction of the job. Tortorella, in fact, might have been the favourite for the job after being an assistant to Ron Wilson in 2010 and considering what he's done with the New York Rangers - but that certainly has taken a step backwards in the playoffs. Even though Pittsburgh's Dan Bylsma and Philadelphia's Peter Laviolette were eliminated with Tortorella still alive with the Rangers, they now loom as favourites for the position. The betting here is that Bylsma gets the job because the United States Olympic Committee and USA Hockey would want no part of Tortorella's act.

Tortorella always has an expression on his face that suggests that he hasn't had a good, satisfying #2 in years.

Ron Wilson was / is 100% the wrong guy...

Torts is his Polar Opposite - not sure he's the guy either...

Laviolette makes sense...

My personal favorite would be Dale Hunter... but he's Canadian :-(

Canadians probably have more interest in who the USA coach is going to be than Amricans do.

With the NHL playoffs in full bloom, does anybody really give a rat's arse about who coaches the O-lame-picks?

Sure. Dale's taken the Caps much further than anyone's anticipated. He's succeeded in moving certain 'players' on his team in the right direction, which is a whole lot more than Bruce Boudreau could ever manage.

But he was only filling in as a favor to McPhee. The Hunter boys have a pretty good gig going in London.

hurry before all the idiots have to leave there good mornings to each other and a dude with a chic profile they all flirt with...

it will be intersting to see who will coach Team USA in Russia, but you gotta love the goaltending situation with Quick, Miller, Schendier, Howard, even Thomas if he is still playing.
I hope Hunter stays with the Caps. He put all the young guys in their places and they knew their roles.
