10:28 AM ET 05.13 | A's manager Bob Melvin said that Brian Fuentes will be closing for now. "We're going to back off with Grant Balfour a little while and see what Brian has to offer," Melvin said. Fuentes was pleased with the switch, saying, "It's where I feel most comfortable and I believe I can get the job done. It's good to know he has that confidence in me." Ryan Cook worked a scoreless eighth and has not allowed a run in 16 2/3 innings this season, and he is seen as the A's closer of the future. Considering how well Cook has fared in the eighth inning, it's unclear where Balfour will slot in in the late innings, but Melvin mentioned that this move does free up another right-handed reliever for him. He has four left-handers, including Fuentes, in the bullpen, and only three right-handers.

This would have been news several weeks ago but the A's rarely find themselves in save situations

They must want more excitement out in Oakland... cause Fuentes is an Adventure.

Why not use Francisco, he won't be with the Mets much longer?
