Raiders WR vets on notice: Here come young guns

08:02 AM ET 05.14 | The Raiders' receiving corps is already young with the likes of Denarius Moore, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Jacoby Ford and Louis Murphy already dotting Oakland's roster. But be sure, there is a reason there were eight receivers in the Raiders' rookie minicamp this weekend. New general manager Reggie McKenzie loves competition, and bringing in so many pass catchers could be seen as a warning shot, of sorts, to the "vet" receivers. Especially the drafting of Juron Criner, a big, physical red-zone threat from Arizona. "I feel like I would just bring something different," Criner said Saturday. ... "I feel like I would bring a much bigger presence to the outside to help with the run game and (as) a redzone threat."

No problem with competition but quantity and quality are two very different measures. As with any team with a great history, I'd like to see them return to the likes of their glory days. I haven't paid a lot of attention to them so I'm not aware of all their deficiencies; however, instability over the past several years seems to be one of their biggest.

But do those young guns have any bullets, or just a flag that says "bang"?

Rookie mini-camp reports are premature celebrations. Give these guys a few reps with some veterans before praising them as true challengers.

'New general manager Reggie McKenzie loves competition'. Big deal. All GM's want this. that's not newsworthy.

OK, young guns, but is their quarterback still going to be shooting blanks?

It's the Raiders... A flag followed by a whistle.

Now all we need is the QB to throw the ball to them instead of the other team...

The Raiders might as well settle in and rebuild for the long haul. They aren't going anywhere until Peyton Manning's time in Denver is over.
So relax. Build a team in the draft the next couple of years. Oh, I forgot. When do the Raiders have draft picks again? 2017?

It is for the Raiders. Al would lock in on guys and the rest was just fluff. I love the new attitude McKenzie is bringing. Hopefully we keep making strides upward.
