08:03 AM ET 05.14 | Three days of a rookie minicamp were all Pete Carroll needed to see. Seattle rookie Russell Wilson will be part of the competition to become Seattle's starting quarterback this fall, [Carroll] said Sunday as the team concluded a three-day minicamp for rookies. "He showed us enough," Carroll said. "He's in the competition." Wilson was the team's third-round pick, and he will join a competition that already included free-agent addition Matt Flynn and incumbent starter Tarvaris Jackson. ... The coach estimated Wilson was on the field for 500 snaps all told and threw close to 400 passes. Carroll estimated there was only one time he stumbled on the verbiage of calling a play, demonstrating Wilson's familiarity with a West Coast offense.

Over Matt Flynn "the chosen one" ?

May 14, 2012  08:16 AM ET

Carroll is still clueless.

I could see the competition between Flynn and Wilson. I don't see anyone but Flynn starting the season. Jackson's never impressed and Flynn only has two (exceptional) starts in GB. Wilson did play well in the Badgers' system; can't speak to his performance at (was it NC State?). I think Carroll still approaches this team like he's still at USC.

Just Pete being Pete. He's counting down the days until it's safe to slip back under the NCAA's radar.

Not to mention the boat load of money they threw at Tavaris Jackson last season. They're picking up the best FA QB's (on paper) available each off-season, and also drafting QB's, but still have no clue, whom to start.

Badgers... I was wondering where he came from.

You gave Matt Flynn 28 Million dollars and he might not start? This is smoke and mirrors. Wilson might be in for some Wildcat stuff but thats it.

He was only there for a season though. I think he left a starting position in the SEC and I'm not sure what his reasoning was. Maybe to develop a broader play calling base by working in a different system?

Badgers? Badgers? We don't need no steenking Badgers.

I do see where Carroll states that Wilson is in the QB competition, but I don't see where he says anything about Wilson being a potential starter.

Good point, Bishop. Figure that if you draft a player then they better be competing.

Morning DD, I was ready to post the same thing.

I don't remember hearing much about this guy during the pre-draft process.... He sounds credible.

He was a mid-season candidate for the Heismann (which doesn't mean a lot considering how many pan out in the pros). That trailed off as the Badgers choked on a couple of close games (Mich St. and I don't remember the other one).

Step away from the crack pipe.... Best FA's on paper? LMAO

Your "trolling" time may be better spent, elsewhere.

Wilson is pretty undersized and he's not the long-term answer, especially given the fact that Flynn's got the job for now. I still think Pete is waiting for Barkley. He'd probably trade his wife and kids to get Matty B.

Pete had better hope like hell Flynn is all that...

His job hangs on it.
