08:20 AM ET 05.14 | Perhaps this news goes down a little easier now that he has a new gig in Arizona. University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman admitted to a Flint crowd Friday that the university made the wrong choice bringing in Rich Rodriguez as head football coach. At the time, Coleman said, many were criticizing former coach Lloyd Carr's style as being too old fashioned, outdated next to the flashy, spread offense-style play gaining popularity. "We though, OK, well let's go hire the guy who invented the spread offense," Coleman said. And it was the wrong call, she told members of the Rotary Club of Flint following a question on the topic from the crowd.

It all comes down to winning. If Rich Rod had won, they would have loved the spread. If Lloyd Carr was winning, they would have said, "Gimme that old time Football.... it's god enough for me..."

I wonder if Michigan fans know how to work the internet?

Have them teach the TAMU guys when they figure it out, would you? Thanks.

They're too busy trying to digest the SEC Cheaters and Winnin Handbook. They got the coloing book version last year, and still haven't mastered that, yet

He didn't invent the spread offense, but he did popularize the zone read play in the spread option.

"We though[t], OK, well let's go hire the guy who invented the spread offense," Coleman said. He first mistake was thinking that RichRod "invented" the spread offense. Her second mistake, proceeding from the first, was thinking that she knew anything about football. Her third mistake was not keeping quiet. Good job all around, Mary Sue.

Well, to be fair, the subject matter is totally different.

The SEC Cheater's Handbook is to make sure you "effectively utilize all opportunities to maximize your team's resources in the quest for the almighty W while not getting nabbed" (see p. 1, big bold letters).

This is MUCH more difficult than setting up, connecting and operating a world-wide network of computers with a common operating codes and standards.

Bill Martin spent the whole post Carr hiring process on his boat, prolly drunk. The only sloppier hire I've seen was the debacle where we **** Bob Davie and hired George O'Leary, found out he lied on his resume and then rush hired Tyrone Willingham

You stopped there, and left off the Charlie Weiss bit?
