McGarity cleaning house at Georgia?

08:19 AM ET 05.15 | Forgive any tension around the coaching ranks in Athens, where the resignation of a gymnastics coach appears to have coaches on notice. This makes [UGA athletic director Greg McGarity's] next moves difficult to predict, and several UGA coaches are intensely interested. ... Women's golf coach Kelley Hester, whose No. 9-ranked team failed to advance to nationals, and track coach Wayne Norton each have contracts that expire June 30. Georgia football coach Mark Richt survived McGarity's scrutiny last season when he earned a new five-year contract following 10 wins and an SEC East championship. Indications are men's basketball coach Mark Fox and women's basketball coach Andy Landers remain in good standing, too, at least for now.

QUOTE(#5):

Was it the girls gymnastics coach. Cuz that team was for real a few years back. And they were pretty good at gymnastics too.

They had the best program in the country and they used to have a coach that won 9 NCs in gymnastics. Not sure what happened, though.

Yup. The Gym Dawgs were rocking in those years.

What a none story! Get some REAL news to report!!!

BTW, the champion-producing gymnastics coach from a few years back retired. For the past three years, her top assistant was the coach. He just resigned under pressure.

Susanne Yocolan was the coach for 25 years and is one of the best ever, she retired and her assisstant took over about 3 years ago. It has been "downhill" since then....I use quotes becasue they were still pretty good. But not up to Gym Dawg standards.

Yocolan was the "Pat Summitt" of collegiate gymnastics. In a world where prepubescent girls go to elite private gyms to train for a shot at Olympic glory when they reach 14 to 17 years, Susanne made collegiate gymnastics relevant. Her dominance provided the impetus for other schools to build up their own programs and challenge the monster she built at UGA.

Since Susanne stepped down, UGA's program has not backslid into mediocrity. Stating that is an insult to the world class athletes who chose Georgia within the past three years. What has transpired is the ascendance of other programs built to compete against the GymDawgs. They now possess the coaches with tenure and results. They are winning the tournaments & championships. They are getting the attention of the top recruits.

If the GymDawgs fall into mediocrity, it will be the fault of UGA's administration and athletic department. UGA has the cache to attract the elite coaches. Treat 'em right, and keep the GymDawgs perpetually in the top five of the nation. Channel your inner Mike Adams and lose everything.

McGarity is Darth Foley's secret plant, put in place to run the Dawgs' athletic programs into the ditch, light them on fire, and walk away.

You heard it here first. ;-)

When you get paid millions of dollars, and are the highest paid government employee in the state, well, should it be any other way?
