Witten feels Cowboys' window closing

08:04 AM ET 05.15 | Old only by sports standards, Jason Witten sees at least some of the writing on the wall. [Since] he joined the organization in 2003, Dallas has won only one playoff game and struggled to build a team capable of becoming a perennial contender. As a result, some wonder if Witten, quarterback Tony Romo and linebacker DeMarcus Ware -- the Cowboys' most high-profile players -- will ever experience the same championship glory that many of their predecessors once did. "You try not to think about the window," Witten said. "But obviously, we're realists. We understand where it's at. I feel great and we're playing great. But it's about now. I think that's how this whole organization thinks."

Was the window ever open?

Back when T.O. was there and they went 13-3. That was their only chance and they blew it.

Witten's best chance for success in the playoffs is pretty much anywhere else. There's been a real chemistry problem there for the past decade. Lots of individuals but the Cowboys haven't been looked at as a team since Jimmy Johnson's days there.

Slightly, but there was a screen behind it.

The Cowboys are doomed until Romo leaves.

It's a retractable dome, Jason. It's supposed to close. It keeps those barely-clothed nymphs in cheerleader outfits from getting sunburned.

The NFC East is still anybody's division to win. I'm rooting for the Skins to take it this year.

And the Bills to win the AFC east?

Uh, well, no. Their surprising 6-10 season last year was an anomaly. They won't do as well this year. Ryan Fitzpatrick will be somebody's backup in 2013.

I think with everything the way it is, Skins have a shot at a wildcard slot but I think the division still belongs to the Giants. I want to believe in the Iggles and think they'll improve over last year; maybe they'll battle the Skins for that slot; don't think the East will get both this year though.

North has two solid teams. The South and the West won't have anyone really competing for the wildcard; just divisional competition.

Every team has a window, it is just some are better about not letting it close while their head is sticking out of it. Is why you have to admire teams like the steelers and pats and a few others.

They've added some weapons especially to the D. If they can stay healthy they could surprise a few folks this year.

The teams that keep the window open are the teams that build a total organization: overall continuity, good scouting, good cap management, the whole enchilada. The Cowboys have, well, Jerruh Jones.

We're taking all the support we can get.

What you're feeling is old age; what you're hearing is the ticking of your internal clock. You have a finite number of snaps, Jason. Better use them wisely.
You wanna win in Dallas? Get in Romo's face; kick his butt and everyone else's in the huddle. If you're not willing to step up and take charge, accept your also-ran fate and embrace the status of "second loser."
(Damn, I should drink more often or less often...can't decide which.)
