Agent begins unhappy ending for Semin in D.C.

08:20 AM ET 05.15 | Dale Hunter may wind up being only the first of many offseason changes coming to the nation's capital. [Alexander Semin's] agent made it clear on Monday that the team's current style of play doesn't make best use of the winger. While Semin's agent, Mark Gandler, wouldn't rule out the possibility of his client returning to Washington, at this point it seems unlikely. "We need to see where they see the team going, which direction and then we'll talk to management and see if we're going the same way," Gandler said in a phone interview. "If they need Alex we'll talk. If they don't need Alex, as they did not need him this year, then there's no reason to be together. Then they won't be paying a lot of money and Alex won't be wasting his career."

I would think the only unhappy ending for his agent would be having semin in his face

I sensed that this team was going to have a VERY different make up,(although they should really try to leave them as inttact as possible...they are a really good team) I just didn't expect the crapola (i.e. "I'm out of here") to start this quickly

Nah this was a long time coming with Semin. McPhee wanted him out of here but didn't have the balls to pull the trigger for anything less than a 1st rounder. Looking back, he should have made that deal for a playoff ready grinder instead of having Semin go -2 in Game 7.
I look forward to a Caps team without Semin on it. Maybe Ovie can focus on hockey a little more instead of partying with his buddy at the Russia House in Dupont.

With his cap hit and some question marks about him after this season, I don't know how many teams would be willing to give up a lot for him.

I don't know, snipers like Ovechkin don't grow on trees. I think #8 is staying in Washington for the long haul, but if he was shopped around by the Caps GM I think they would be lots and lots of interest.

Sounds like Mark Gandler is gonna be a great coach. With Semin gone, the $7 million can be put to much better use. He's got great talent but apparently doesn't like the team concept. Maybe somebody can use him for an enforcer? That's a joke :-)

If Semin wants PK and last minute playing time, he's gotta hit the gym. He's softer than my puppy's dog-sh...t.

So, basically, Semin is saying he doesn't like to play defense and only wants to hang around the neutral zone waiting for a break out pass. Nice.
Nobody expects…

Slap your the Capitals fan so correct me if I am wrong but wasnt he stuck on the 3rd line most of the season???
So you have a potential top line guy playing with the 3rd line and want him to be productive??
Don't get me wrong, Semin has issues showing up every night to play but I am not sure what can be expected playing the 3rd line...
Sounds like Semin wants out more than the Cap's want him out.

I'll take him on my team. Isles are loaded with soft players, what the hell's another on top of the pile.

$6m for 20 goals won't do it. If the Caps don't bring him back (for something more like $3-4m) then he'll go to the KHL. Semin has never appeared too happy even in Washington and I think the KHL is the better option; certainly nowhere outside of D.C. would work for him. Both Semin and McPhee had the same idea over the last two season - one-year deals, which was actually a very good move on McPhee's part. They Caps aren't saddle with two or three more years at $6m+. Between Semin moving on, Knuble not being resigned (age), Vokoun gone, and a number of lesser lights, the Caps will need some cash for Carlson and Green but will have 10+m under the cap, possibly closer to $15m, to find a couple of 3rd/4th wingers and a center. They are actually sitting in a nice position.
