Heat should be on O'Dowd in Colorado

08:12 AM ET 05.16 | Dan O'Dowd issued a vote of confidence to his manager Tuesday, which, in the eyes of many in Colorado, misses the point. On a 10-point scale, with 1 being lower than the Rockies' lowly standing in the National League, what's your confidence level in [O'Dowd] ever getting Colorado back to the World Series? This team is a joke. O'Dowd built it. Any talk among frustrated Rockies fans of trading center fielder Dexter Fowler or dumping pitching coach Bob Apodaca or firing manager Jim Tracy avoids the real issue. ... Because if the Rockies significantly want to change the way they do business, the one change that would make sense is the removal of O'Dowd.

The owners should have their feet to the fire as well. Between what they get from outside sources and from the fans supporting a bad team for years? This team makes a lot of money every year but continue to plug holes with mediocre players because of their budget.

The Rockies need to make a couple of deals to shake up the team. You got to remember it is May and they are playing in the nl west.

Word that...

They don't have a Starting Pitcher with a WHIP under 1.45...
Moyer (gotta Love him - but he should have retired) has given up 53 hits in 38 2/3 IPs...

And Another thing...

Why exactly are we seeing "JetMan" in the SI Video stream?

Because he's more entertaining than this thread on the Rockies.

Apodaca should be the first butt out the door. Every quality pitcher that has been on the Rox' roster has had his delivery tampered with by this clown to the point of detriment. Look at Ubaldo -- near Cy-Young performance a few years ago, Apodaca tries to "fix" things in the off-season and been in the toilet since.

If Hurdle was the manager he would have been gone by now. I do not understand the patience with Tracy. It does not matter who they have this team under performs.

Fire the entire staff, trade some of these bums, and rebuild.

Good article....pretty clear the ownership needs to re-evaluate the situation......

O'Dowd has the 4th longest tenue of ALL GM's in MLB. Does the team's record over that time warrant his removal: YES! A complete failure of the draft and farm system.

The owners obviously have interests that do not include a winning team. The only thing that will register with them is a boycott. They will quickly rethink their spurious strategy if they are no longer making revenue from game attendance.

The biggest issues with Dan O'Dowd is his inability to analyze the younger talent pool. In his 13 years as the Gm, he has been responsible for drafting over 100 players, yet only 3 are on the current club. Another issue that comes up is ownership wanting to keep a low payroll. The fans may be right in asking for a change of ownership, but if there are other teams that have succeeded in the decade of 2000-2010, with a lower payroll than the Rockies. For example: Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, Anaheim Angels and the Oakland A's. All of these teams have won their divisions and appeared in the playoffs, with a payroll that is comparable to what the Rockies had throughout the decade($78 Million). Other Gm's have been able win with a low payroll, O'Dowd just does not have the skills to pull that off.
