08:09 AM ET 05.17 | There may be a young free agent center out there for the Heat, after all. The only problem? It's a very big one: He's not healthy and can't seem to stay healthy. Greg Oden, 7-0, hasn't played since 2009-10 and is recovering from his fifth knee surgery in five seasons. ... [His] agent, Mike Conley Sr., told us Oden is positioned be ready to play in December or January "as far as being effective and in shape" and will explore options in the coming months, with the possibility of joining a team next season. But nobody obviously can know for sure when he will be ready. The Heat hasn't called but "Greg has talked about Miami," Conley said. "He has interest. He's not retiring."

The real question is, can this keep MeBron from getting sleepy and tired after playing 42 minutes in a game?

Heat would be foolish not to kick the tires... Assuming said kick wouldn't blow Oden's knee out.

Seriously - I feel bad for the kid. He's a good dude with amazingly bad fortune.

Retire? I'd like to retire from doing nothing.

Some team will take a shot at him.

To give Oden some credit -- he could have signed with someone this year (multi-year deal) -- even though he knew he couldn't play. Instead he decided to rehab and try to get healthy with no contract.

If You Can't take the heat, take care of your kneecaps (Worst joke ever!)

May 17, 2012  09:03 AM ET

At his age his only focus should be in making a comeback.

May 17, 2012  09:03 AM ET

Seriously though, If he can actually stay healthy he can contribute..... but i wouldn't give him no big contract.... but a string of 10 day contracts, Sure....

good point.......for the right price, why not take a shot?

Absolutely... give him 15 MPG at the minimum and see what you get.

Worse personnel decisions are made across the league...
