Why the Nets lead D-Will chase

08:10 AM ET 05.17 | On the surface, a dozen teams could make a run at Deron Williams, but perhaps only the Mavericks and Nets lead the pack. The Nets have a 25.5 percent chance of winning a top-3 pick in the draft lottery on May 30. ... The Mavericks, meanwhile, are in transition. They were just swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Thunder, and will have to make moves to create enough space for Williams. Could they use their amnesty clause on Brendan Haywood, trade Shawn Marion and have enough space to sign Deron Williams and Kevin Garnett? Maybe. We'll see how crafty Mark Cuban is when he has little to work with. But from what we've heard, Williams is looking for reasons to stay with the Nets. It's up to GM Billy King to provide them.

As long as the mavs can get either D-Will or D-Howard, or both, then the mavs offseason will be a success....

Name the last time @mcuban was able to sign a top Free Agent and bring him to Dallas. Oh thats right ... there hasnt been one. Thats why this whole season of not having JJ BArea and Tyson Chandler was stupid. @mcuban acts like signing DWill and D Howard is in the bag ... no prob. Im calling BS.

I thought Williams was a guy of reason..................yet he's looking for a reason to stay with the Nets? If Howard isn't traded beforehand to the Nets, Williams and reason don't go together..........Deron go home to Dallas and the Mavs sir!

Dallas will pursue Williams as option number one his contract is up before Dwight. I think they will try anyway possible to move Haywood and sign Mahinmi. If they can't move Haywood I think Mahinmi will walk because I don't see Cuban investing in what Mahinmi can get on the market as a center even if Wright is under size for center.
All these important players have no contract or non -guarenteed for next year:
Jason Terry: No contract
Jason Kidd: No contract
Delonte West: No Contract
Vince Carter: non-guarenteed
Ian Mahinmi: No Contract
Brandan Wright: non-guarenteed
Lamar Odom: non-guarenteed
I can't see them bringing back Kidd unless on the very cheap.
