08:03 AM ET 05.18 | Signs of spring in Baltimore: Ed Reed pondering his future. [Reed] kept the tradition going Thursday by telling Sirius/XM NFL Radio he isn't 100 percent committed to playing in 2012. Citing concerns about his health and long-term future, the Pro Bowl free safety told hosts Adam Schein and Rich Gannon that he isn't sure if he will play this season. He said that he has considered retirement during the past three offseasons -- this one included. It's also worth noting that Reed is in the final year of his contract. "It's still May," Reed said. "We do have a mandatory camp coming up [it's scheduled for June 12-14] that I'm still in deep thought about because other things are important to me now."

I hate to see a great player go, but I guess we'd all rather remember him as a star rather than watching him decline and struggle at the end of his career.
Best of luck to you, Ed, whatever choice you make.

I completely agree. Hate to see him go, but can't blame him for getting out with his health.

The Duerson and Seau suicides must have defensive players thinking about their own futures. Those that can still think, that is.

As much as I love football, my son's mother called last night wanting me to "coax" him into playing High School football next year.... The answer was "no".

He is pushing for a contract extension. That is all this is about. he is due $7+ million this year. He wants one more big payday. They are crazy to give it to him, he is getting old fast. They know it too.

All this concussion talk, along with suicides and health problems lead me to think the same thing when my boys finally reach that age, too. It's scary.

I'm a diehard Ed Reed fan but he pulls this crap ever off season and gets annoying. I used to respect him a lot but the constant whining is just ridiculous. He whines so much maybe he should wear a bra! When he signed his contract back then, he was the highest paid safety. Now that he sees Pollard and Webb getting ext he is thinking why not him also. Problem is, he only has a couple years left at best and he wants multi year. If I was the Ravens, let him test free agency just like the same they did to Ray Lewis. As great as he was, he is now injury prone, does not give 100% in the field, does not tackle and I'm sure that nobody will give him more money than what the Ravens will offer.

Dude...... It's a new day away from the money angle, especially considering the fact that Reed has had a ton of injuries, and already has a ton of money.

I think he's angling for more money which is not a good thing, cause he's been hurt a lot and if he's really thinking he knows they are not going to pay him the "big" bucks. But with them losing Suggs this will hurt the D even more and Lewis (if he wants to admit it or not) can't stop everyone and is not the hammer he used to be. this team could struggle unless the talent they picked up steps up.

Your son may never thank you for this, but you've made a very good decision on his behalf. So, I'll thank you.

Of course he is. It is not hard to retire. He is angling for money and/or public fan support.
