08:10 AM ET 05.18 | The support of Hawks players, which helped Larry Drew get the job in the first place, may serve him well. As Drew awaits word from the team if it will pick up his contract option for next season, he cites his relationship with players as his strong suit. "That's something I take a lot of pride in and spent a lot of time talking about and trying to work on," he said. "Player relationships are so important on this level, how you deal with your best player all the way down to the guy who might not even dress out during games." ... "[Coaches] can only control so much, but the one thing we try to control is that when those guys come to the gym they play hard for you every single night," Drew said. "I thought we got that."

Its not the coach- its the mix of players-decent/solid team...but not the right mix

At the end of the day it's a profitable business. Tweaking might bring championship dollars or sink them into places reserved for Kings and Wolves. I'd say keep the team together, keep making money and hope for the best cos it can't get any worse.

Even though I'm not a Hawks fan it's hard not to notice the refs helped the Celts a lot. They got robbed this year. My word to the Hawks is to stay together and come back stronger next year. Their time will come.

Need to trade Jj and Smith and start rebuilding around Al and Teague. And NO, Drew is NOT a HC material, please bring in a REAL coach!!

There are very few teams desperate/foolish enough to take on that Joe Johnson contract. You guys are stuck with him. JJ making 20plus million is almost the highest paid player in the NBA signed to 2015-16, there is no way you guys are moving him. Smith yeah you can get some pieces for him though. The only hope is if you guys were able to get an above average center for Smith and let Al play in his PF position. Hawks are better off keeping their squad intact and remaining in the middle of the pack

The cheap arse management decides to keep Drew. F the Hawks. I am done.

Not to mention they have a new owner who is new to this type of business...

That deal fell through. The Hawks are still owned by the always-infighting Atlanta Spirit Group.

LD is neither the problem nor the solution. The problems start at the very top. And Gatorade/Haterade is right - we're stuck with JJ. So much for rebuilding...
