Coyotes captain hurting his team

08:25 AM ET 05.18 | In a world where Dwight King has outscored the team, the Coyotes appear to be understandably frustrated. Kings forward Jarret Stoll hit Coyotes captain Shane Doan with just enough annoyance to cause Doan to retaliate with a punch to Stoll's head. It was a terrible penalty for Doan to take so early in a must-win game, and it ended up propelling Stoll to a magnificent outing. ...[The] fact their captain took a bad penalty that early in the contest just doesn't make any sense and had to be maddening for the coaching staff. It was a smart play by Stoll to get under Doan's skin on Thursday. Did the Kings perhaps have a hunch Doan might react that way? The Coyotes captain was rather invisible the rest of the game, too.

Nice to see that they are still concerned about hockey in Winnipeg. I don't think that Doan or anyone else on the Coyotes is actually "hurting" the team. The Kings are just playing outstanding hockey right now.

Too bad if the Yotes go out in four.

I think it may be a bit of both

Doan's a stud - doesn't flop -extreme talent, driven by semi-controlled rage.

The Coyotes came out hard last night and played their best hockey of the series right up until Kopitar snuck behind them for his breakaway goal. After that it was more of the same .

BTW, if you watch the highlights to your right ------------------>, check out Phoenix coach Dave Tippett's reaction to Kopitar's goal at around the 45 second mark. You don't have to be a professional lip reader to pick up his brief, but to the point comment.

I don't know, I saw him do a few things last night that led me to believe he is getting mighty frustrated. He would be of more use to his mates if he could get the puck behind Jonathan Quick, because it doesn't look like the Kings are intimidated by him.

He has had a tendency to play some undisciplined hockey in these playoffs with his borderline hits.

THE BISHOP....

I agree, why he wasn't called in Game 1 for the face-off takedown is beyond me

He should be frustrated. Nothing is working against the Kings. I guess the Nucks should be applauded for even getting a game off of them.

old school hockey, an era past, a lot of injuries doled out.

Well if anybody would puff their chests out for only losing 4 games to 1 instead of getting swept it would be the Canucks.

Yes, that. The Kings have been getting each team, series after series, to throw out discipline and take bad penalties, every game. Doan it early and then Larson got drawn in by the master, Dustin Brown, late in the game. It perplexed me that the Yotes were trying to argue the Larson penalty--plain and simple, don't let a good hit get under your skin (that's first), and then also don't get pulled in by on the edge stuff.

True. Too bad he's on the wrong team. He's another great player who will finish his career without having won anything.

I know he has other positive attributes that are the reason he was granted the position, but I would hate seeing my captain go to the box so much. And he does go to the box often, not just this series. I just don't understand how some teams make someone a captain that goes to the box all the time (will never understand how Derian Hatcher wore a C for Dallas). Shane's borderline for me, great leadership qualities, but getting PIMs a lot (should insert "Shane don't go...to the box so often" reference or something).

The sooner they silence that stupid wolf howl the better. That alone will make an early exit ... sweet.
