10:02 AM ET 05.19 | It is rough when the punter - make that the former punter - is wondering about the development of the quarterback. Steve Weatherford, basking in the afterglow this week as he received his Super Bowl XLVI championship ring, questioned the "maturation" of Mark Sanchez while speaking on an NFL.com podcast. Weatherford and Sanchez were teammates with the Jets in 2009 and 2010. They reached the AFC championship game both seasons. "I like Mark - I think he's a very talented quarterback. But from my standpoint, I haven't seen a lot of maturation," Weatherford said. "When you're a quarterback and you come in, and you're expected to be the face of the franchise, and you're expected to lead the team, that's a lot to take on as a rookie. But as the years go on, I think you're expected to mature, skill-wise, and also mature as a leader, and ... as much as I like the guy, I just haven't seen that."

Only thing worse than a quote from a punter is a quote from an ex-punter.

He still punts, but for the cross town rivals.
Hair splitting aside, it's not like Weatherford is telling tales out of school here.

Winning the Super Bowl makes you an expert on "everything"....I heard that Weatherford was giving tips on the best micro-procedure to perform for brain surgery....

"I just haven't seen that." None of us has. And we probably won't.

If the Jets don't see it this season, I bet they start looking elsewhere. One way or the other, Sanchez's days as a starter are numbered.

The right thing to do is what S. Holmes does, very professionally. Just refuse to huddle up with the guy during games.

Exactly. I'll take someone's opinion that actually sees what goes on daily.

As a matter of fact, it is so obvious that it hardly needs saying.
Listen closely. When the darkness falls, and the trains stop running, and the cars all park for the night, go outside and you will hear it, coming from all around, very low, but never ceasing...

This is even funnier if you insert the British meaning of "punter."
