Welker watching words

09:05 AM ET 05.20 | As Wes Welker has discovered, contract negotiations can be tricky business. Watch what you say, because everything can, and will, be used against you. Perhaps that's why the Patriots wideout yesterday opted for the good soldier approach when speaking with a group of reporters at his annual Old Spice Wes Welker Football Clinic at Bishop Fenwick High School. "I'm not frustrated whatsoever. I know the words that came out maybe seemed that way," Welker said, referring to an interview he gave the Herald on Thursday. "But I'm not frustrated at all. I'm making five times more than I did last year. There's no frustration there."

He played college football for a zany pirate that never held back on saying exactly what was on his mind. Unfortunately, you can't say exactly what's on your mind any more...unless you are willing to accept whatever consequences come with it.

Of course the Herald has a way of twisting anything regarding the Pats. What a p.o.c. paper.

Wes is a class act, and seems to know that sometimes keeping his mouth shut might actually benefit him. That is a refreshing change from most of the stories here.

Thing about it is...we've pretty much established that without Belichick and Brady, there would be no Wes Welker since he could never do his slant-and-run thing in pretty much any other system. So he is best served cutting the best deal he can and then shutting up and playing ball. As great as everyone seems duped into thinking he is, please come up with the other teams offensive schemes he would thrive in. I bet it won't be easy to find many.
