10:40 AM ET 05.20 | Despite a streak of 40 at-bats without a homer and unimpressive stats through a quarter of the season, struggling Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez declared that when the year's over, he will have delivered his customary big production. "My numbers are going to be there at the end of the year - there's no question about it," Rodriguez said after yesterday's 6-5 loss to the Reds. "The thing is, we've got to put it to work right away because our team needs victories and our offense, our coaches, players expect a lot from me. And I'll be there." Rodriguez, who took an 0-for-4 yesterday, has not gone deep since May 6 and has one home run in his past 20 games. In 40 games, approximately a quarter of the year, he has five homers and 15 RBIs, meaning he is on pace for just north of 20 homers and 60 RBIs. Yesterday Rodriguez, who will turn 37 in July, insisted his confidence is unshaken and he still forecasts a major season.

I guess he's expecting a package from UPS. Have someone else sign for it, Alex, just in case.

Yeah. The three-run-homer based offense is a lot less effective when nobody's on base.

Alex is not worried because he has a guaranteed contract. Same with Texeira. Throw in a totally washed up Russell Martin and one third of the line up can't hit good enough to be at AA. Stick a fork in the Yankees cause they're done.

As a Yankee fan, I don't know which contract I hate more - ARod's or Tex's. They are both godawful. But a big Mouthful who keep posting all last year that Jeter was done. Doesnt look like it to me!

He hasn't had a huge year since 2007, he's had some nice years since but he's not putting the kind of numbers up one would be expecting from the highest paid player in the game.

Of course he is not worried, he will get his $30 million per season for the next five years whether he hits one or a hundred home runs.
For baseball fans the good news is that this steroid fueled phony will never break the home run record at his current pace.

To which record are you referring? The single season homerun record held by a steroid fueled phony, or the lifetime record held by a steroid fueled phony.
The only difference between Rodriguez and 500 other guys the past two decades is the tearful interview. The only people NOT roided up in the 90's and 00's were you and me...and I'm not sure about you. So please spare us the whole "Aroid!!!" act.

i dunno about you guys, but to me the home run records are 755 (aaron) and 61 (Maris). The media can put whatever they want on paper, but those are the legitimate numbers to follow. If i was Bud, I'd throw out all the stats from the 80's, 90's and 2000-2009. The players in those decades made their money, they'll always have that. For people thinking that some players were clean, and i'm sure there was, this would be a lesson for future players and their union to take responsibility for their game and not let other players jeopardize their game again.
As for HoF, I think that the ones that warrant it, like bonds, clemens, etc should be voted in, as a testament to those decades. But all HoF plaques from that period should automatically reflect that their stats werefrom the steriod era, for future generations to be able to understand their legacies. For specific players like bonds/arod/clemens that have steriod proof, let their plaque reflect their specfic steriod indescretions for future fans to reflect on, and as a deterent for future players.
