Nuggets should be targeting Rivers

08:08 AM ET 05.21 | While its football team has taken the Hall of Fame veteran approach, Denver is likely looking to the draft to improve its NBA fortunes. [The] Nuggets need more firepower if they want to shoot for the NBA championship. Here's the target: Austin Rivers is a 19-year-old shooting guard from a basketball family. He's got range on his jumper and the arrogance taught at Duke. Dreamers think if quarterback Peyton Manning can pick Denver from all cities in the NFL, the Nuggets should also be able to attract an established superstar. While not closing his mind to any opportunity, Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri has repeatedly told me that Denver has yet to establish itself as a preferred destination for top free agents.

I'm ready to see how this kids transition into the NBA will pan out, could be another bust , but I doubt it.

Can say the same for Ty Lawson as well.
Rivers has size, so I think some upside there. Nuggets were openly exposed in the last 3 minutes of game since they don't have a "go to " guy.
I thought Ty could be that, but I was wrong.

Anderson and Miller won't be back next year which will make the Nuggets one of the youngest teams in the NBA. The need a proven veteran scorer and a true power forward. Karl doesn't like to play rookies, Faried only ended up getting the time he did because of injuries (and thank god for that). Top free agents won't be coming to Denver for the simple fact that they don't play the money game and they think their team is good enough. Anybody they bring in will be at a salary they think is right for the owners pocket.

Rivers=Bust , Denver has no play to lure a top free agent because there is no clear NO.2 guy there .

Nuggets should be targeting a coach/big man camp to work with McGee to improve on his post game. He is the important piece if they plan on getting past the first round. This team is far away from being a go to target for top free agents. Basketball and NFL are totally different. As far as the draft from what I found Denver is picking 20th. They need to draft best available 2 Guard Rivers might not even be there at the spot.

I see a lot of Boston's K-Mart in him. He should be a bonafide starter like his dad..

But why??? The kid is under-developed and the NBA is not the place to get developed, just ask the countless young kids who lacked crucial aspects of the game and are now D-League and overseas now. This kid lacks court vision and ball handling to be a point and size and shooting ability to play the two. Where is the upside again? He barely led Duke in scoring in a down year. He'll be playing against the 66ers for two seasons then no telling what happens

"He's got range on his jumper and the arrogance taught at Duke."
How does that Duke arrogance translate in the NBA?
Here's a great trivia question-- Who's the only Duke player from the Coack K era to win an NBA title?
Danny Ferry, as a sub for the Spurs
Brand + Boozer + Magette + Laettner + Hurley + G. Hill + Battier + Anyone else you name=

Just like IU under Bob Knight, great college program that turns out *primarily* NBA role players. (Emphasis for those who throw out Isaiah Thomas and pre-injury Grant Hill)

Wow -- that is hard to believe. I didn't believe it and checked -- you are right.
I started to check for North Carolina -- but remembered MJ -- no reason to look it up.

he cant defend, he,s a high usage shooter who didnt have a great % last year.....he's undersized as a two. And did I mention he CANT DEFEND. This is the hype machine. But rest assured Karl is too smart to pick Rivers. Dion Waiters maybe....Royce White maybe....or even Jeff Taylor. Hell, even Jeremy Lamb (maybe). karl likes high energy guys and guys who buy into the system. So why did this idiot write this pointless nonsense article?????
