Del Negro promised nothing beyond Sunday

08:09 AM ET 05.21 | Despite being swept out of the playoffs over the weekend, there is, for the first time in years, hope for the Clippers. As a fan, there's always a danger in assuming your team is going to make the playoffs next time just because it made it this time. ... But this time? This has to be the start of something that will last, even if just for another season, correct? With Paul and Griffin alone, the Clippers should be relevant. This situation seems, dare we suggest it, even Clipper proof for 2012-13. Coach Vinny Del Negro evidently has been promised nothing beyond Sunday and his continued employment here seems to be a question of whether or not Clippers management can find someone it likes better.

They could have extended the series to 6 games if Billups was playing, but they would still lose to the Spurs because the lack of playoff experience from Griffin

So... who would Sterling find that "it likes better" than Del Negro?

Sterling has been proven an idiot. You probably don't want an answer to that question.

Probably Del Negro's fault the his best two players were at about 50% to 70% during the playoffs.

hummm.........so we wake up today to discover that the Clippers, like Cinderella, turned into pumpkins at midnight. So what's the big deal? They have needs and history tells us they won't be filled. We found out about Blake Griffith, it's easier to play 1 through 82 than it is once the second season begins - hopefully this will serve as a wake up call to young Blake who disappeared at times during the playoffs. As for Vinny, what's this guy doing in LA in the first place? Vinny was a 2nd rate guard and is a 2nd rate coach, I realize that comment is brutal but it's the truth. With Paul & Griffith these guys should be the OKC of the left coast, just run it baby, forget the sets.

VDN is a goner , that franchise is cursed , they won't keep Paul and Griffin will go as a RFA in a couple of years . Sterling is too cheap to retain these guys

One quick note: Vinny being a second-rate player is pretty immaterial, no? Phil Jackson & Pat Riley were journeymen-level, and in the NFL, the number of coaching greats who were great players is equally limited. The recent award to Bird pointed out just how rarely greatness overlaps in the two areas.
The greater concern, for any Clips fan, will always be the owner...

First year for the Big 3 the Heat made it to the conference finals. First year for these guys together and they get to the semis- why panic? they have a great roster, if Billups comes back they have another anchor to rely on. even if not, they have great D with Kmart, Evans if they come back, not sure of their contract status right now. Bledsoe was crazy against the Spurs, Blake is doin great for season2, no reason to hate saying he disapeared. its his 2nd season, some of you forget that with all that posterizing hes been doing this season. i want them to do a trade with the Celts Trade Caron Buttler and another player for Ray Allen, id say give us Jordan but i know thats ridic. either way though, Clippers are a force to be reckoned with, and are gonna be the L.A. Team to beat in the near future
