08:17 AM ET 05.21 | Lance Berkman awoke Monday facing stark reality. [By] Sunday he admitted the possibility is inescapable. "If I've torn my ACL or something like that, I'd certainly get it fixed. But you don't know how psychologically you're going to come back from something like that." ... Sources familiar with Saturday's preliminary examination by two Dodgers team doctors said Sunday that an ACL tear is suspected. Berkman, placed on the disabled list Sunday morning, recognized that his next game may be a long time off. "You think about it when you have a potentially major surgery at this stage of your career," he said. "... I don't think it's one of those deals where you sit out a week and see where you are. I think it's much more serious than that."

I suppose it was too much to think that we'd have a healthy Berkman two years in a row. If last year was his last healthy year though, what a year it was for him.

Good morning clem. Hope you had a pleasant weekend. The weather certainly was nice.

Morning all - looks like the attempt at making this the thread of the day has lost out to the Yankmees Geriatric unit thread.

Looks now like it is an ACL tear, and at Berkman's age it seems easy to say it is a career-ender. The Cards have other options.....

BUT, I would hate for Lance to go out this way; I'm sure he'd like to finish on his terms too. It will be interesting to see which way he heads. Retirement or Comeback.

Yeah, I'm sorry to see this for Lance. Good guy, and I think he was a great addition to the Cards last year.....not only his production, but what he added to the clubhouse.
