[What] do you make of what SEC Commissioner Mike Slive had to say on Friday when the bowl was announced? "This new game will provide a great match-up between the two most successful conferences in the BCS era and will complement the exciting postseason atmosphere created by the new four-team model." Did you notice that he didn't say "if." Slive was speaking as an informed power broker who just told you that the football Final Four is already a done deal.

If it happens, will really be the death knell for Div-1 NCAA football. Won't be anymore cinderella teams getting better and having an opportunity ala Boise.
I know they didn't have a chance before, but we had the chance to correct that with a legitimate 4 team playoff....now it is devolving into 4 mega conferences and if you don't make those you have NO chance at all, effectively eliminating from a Boise or Utah the opportunity.

Yep. The powers that be never wanted a system that gave such an opportunity.
They've had bottom dwellers in their conference that suck a lot worse than BSU, TCU, Utah, etal for years. Now, the separation will get worse between the top of the conferences and the bottom IMHO.
Don't think we'll ever see Minnesota/Oregon State in the Rose Bowl...or Kansas/Kentucky in the new whatever it is bowl! But they're are included just because of longevity, not football prowess.

What happened to the playoffs ? Now only 4 teams from 4 conferences have a chance. What a joke, I don't think the power conferences wanted a playoff all along. There will be no true national championship.
