Why Winslow wasn't going to last with Schiano

08:09 AM ET 05.22 | Kellen Winslow's star-crossed stay in Tampa Bay is over. Late Monday night, the Bucs told Winslow to run his final down-and-out. In the end, Winslow simply didn't fit anymore. Not here and not now, not as a player and not as a proclamation. The new coach, Greg Schiano, is urgent, demanding, and his immediate goal is to squeeze everything he can out of the next five minutes. Winslow is a take-his-time, do-it-his-way guy who requires special handling. You could not have imagined a worse match. ... It was never going to last. If the Bucs had better alternatives at tight end, it might not have lasted this long. Eventually, there was bound to be friction. As near as anyone can tell, the only person really surprised by this is Winslow.

If you are high maintenance and not hall of fame material the leash is short.

I believe he was traded to the Seahawks for a conditional 2013 draft pick.

He dominated at the U but against weak competition. Also, he was drafted way too high with the assumption that he was gonna be just like daddy. And he has an attitude problem.

Complete Fail!

Pete Carroll is a college coach at heart, and Winslow's best days were while he was at The U. It seems fitting.

This bodes well for Schiano. He's made an example of one of the bigger stats guys from last year. Do the work or get out.

I can see weeding the garden, but going from Winslow to Dallas Clark is a huge downgrade.

Clark used to be a heckuva route runner, but recently the only route he runs ends up at the training room.

I dunno. Before the injuries and the Curse of Curtis Painter, Dallas Clark was a top tight end. Maybe it was all Peyton Manning's doing, but a guy who has had the success that Clark has over his career deserves at least a chance.

He's a Chris Cooley clone.

I always felt he was a product of Peyton... Good route runner, though.

*Not speedy nor a great pass protector... That may be the difference between him and Winslow.

Uh.....perhaps a HoF TE might be able to be tolerated or even respected for his personal preferences; but Winslow isn't, and HE, as the player/employee, needs to be responsive to the leadership. If not, don't be surprised when you get an opportunity to excel....somewhere else!

Kind of Peyton's Wes Welker. Clark will be 33 next month, though, so I'm guessing he's past his prime.

curious as to how long Schiano will last. Odd choice indeed.

A demanding guy like him is the perfect personality fit to right the ship in Tampa, but it's still a big transition that few have been able to make successfully.

Joey Porter had it right about Winslow.
