Howard still a goner

08:12 AM ET 05.22 | The overhaul is underway in Orlando, where Stan Van Gundy and Otis Smith walked the plank so many assumed they would. Van Gundy: Gone. Smith: Gone. Next up: Dwight Howard. That's how I see it, anyway. According to two people familiar with the Magic's strategy, the departure of Van Gundy and Smith does not necessarily mean Howard is staying in Orlando. Similarly, if the Magic had chosen to keep Van Gundy and/or Smith, it wouldn't necessarily have signaled that Howard was gone. ... Should the Magic consult with Howard on who the next coach and GM should be? In theory, that's a good idea. But indications are strong that Howard's leaving anyway, so from here this looks like a complete revamping of the organization.

I thought SVG was a good coach. The real problem was always Otis Smith making the team worse and worse every year. Even with Smith getting rid of players, Van Gundy's Magic never missed the playoffs.

Howard isn't going anywhere unless he wants to. He is running the show in this organization. That much is clear.

Someone help me... he "said" he was staying but did he sign anything to that effect?

May 22, 2012  08:33 AM ET

so everybody is gone? how about the owner?

For the love of God I hope they get it done in the offseason.

+1

I always maintained the Arenas hiring, the Turk re-hiring were all absolute bone headed moves.

Stan does have complaining issues but can't question his coaching ability.

I just wish he would go already... another year of "where is he going?" is going to drive us all bonkers!

And Otis didn't get fired. He just walked away on his own.

Who needs the aggravation? They will be in rebuiling mode soon.

This makes twice SVG has been screwed by his NBA employer. Remember when Pat Riley dumped him so he could coach himself when they got Shaq and we're loaded enough to win the ring?

And why would the Magic want Bynum? He has one more year on his contract...the Lakers are probably questioning giving him an extension...the Magic should as well for the same reasons. The Magic should go after younger, cheaper talent and/or picks and dump bad contracts. look att he Hornets...they already have a better long-term outlook than Orlando
