08:18 AM ET 05.22 | Leadership can take many forms in a clubhouse, and, even though he's not calling pitches or, in his words, "diving for balls," David Ortiz wants people to know he's a leader. "I'm the kind of [expletive] who worries about winning games. I'm a winner. ... But what I do, I don't do for everybody to know. I do it for us to get better, and the trash talking out there to stop." Ortiz insists it doesn't matter if he's called a leader, but the topic clearly rankles him. "I don't give a [expletive] if they want to call me a leader. I don't give a [expletive] if they want to call me a captain. I don't give a [expletive] if they call me either of them. Because you know what? I always say I came to play this game and one day I'm going to be gone.

That's better than Pedey's "that's not the way we do things around here".

The Boston media can be downright ruthless. I don't blame him for his rant. Team meetings are supposed to be private events.

Big Papi looked pretty good over at first base this past weekend in Philly.

Yes, he certainly did, and Gonzalez did well in right field. With Ross out, I'm thinking Youk will come back to play first base with Gonzo playing some right field.

He'll be the starting 3rd baseman. Good morning Cat.

Looks like I'm living up to my name this morning.

It is about time that Sox Nations gives Ortiz his due. He has been a great player for the team. Without him Nation would still be looking for its first WS title.

Ortiz is only getting ripped by the media, not the fans. The media has the players under a microscope 24/7/365. They take pictures of their midsections at spring training to say if they got fat over the winter...etc. Ortiz has gotten nothing but love from the fans since he became the regular dh in 2003.

My thoughts exactly. When are you taking the bag off - you couldn't be that ugly. Or should I say bags?

The bag stays on.

I don't think Gonzo could handle RF in Fenway, much too slow.

It sure is nice of the Yankees to give the Sox some company in last place.

They are very charitable like that.
