08:21 AM ET 05.22 | Slumping Ike Davis didn't help his cause Monday night, entering the game in the sixth inning and striking out twice to drop his average to .161. [Davis] sat close to Terry Collins' desk in the manager's office Monday at PNC Park, the two men alone, talking about 15 minutes before the Mets took batting practice. Collins had said he was going to have a discussion with Davis about why he was not in the starting lineup against the Pirates. There was plenty to talk about a day after Collins for the first time didn't dismiss the idea of Davis going to the minors to work out his hitting woes. Collins left Davis out of Monday's lineup after saying earlier in the road trip that he would face Pittsburgh lefty Erik Bedard.

Why does the manager have to explain to a player who is batting a buck and some change.I guess you have to satisfy that powerful union.

The manager is trying not to cause more mental anguish to a player who is obviously struggling both physically and mentally. Just like a parent, the manager is taking on the role of mentor and father. Collins has been giving Ike chances, but now that the team is not winning, Ike's inabilities are showing more. Ike knows he is playing like **** and Collins is doing his best to include him and discuss with him every move. Ike is a young player and good player, who will hopefully recover himself, and Collins is trying to consider Ike's future too.

"Ike... We're about 2 months into this season and your still on the Interstate. Don't take this the wrong way son... but..."

Seriously though... Ike's in his own head right now... And that ain't good.

Send him ...let him get his confidence back...hey it happens ...missing a whole year was obviously not a good thing for Ike....

Zactly. Sitting on the bench won't help him.

Go down to the minors...get fixed....come back and help the team. Is that so hard? Hopefully the ego would rather have a stint in the minors versus hitting .161.

Yes?

They sent Mickey back, when he struggled, Davis is no Mickey Mantle, send him down!
