Doc, I have to disagree with Sloan being a relic. He is of the same ilk as Popovich, and the Spurs are in the Western conference Finals. (Of course, it doesn't hurt to have Duncan, Parker and Ginobili).

He can still relate to players - players that are actually mature, team (rather than self) -focused and disciplined - but there aren't too many of those kinds of players any more; and that's effect of guaranteed multi-million dollar contracts.

On another note, I hope he doesn't end up in Charlotte. That would be an awful sequel to a great coaching career. Go to a contender Jerry!

The players are a different crop of character, or lack thereof (depending on your point of view). Generally these guys now won't buy what Jerry is selling. They'll belly ache, complain, and eventually withdraw from him. He's not going to coddle them and tell them what they want to hear.
