A&M seeks more Dallas recruits

Posted: Thursday January 10, 2008 07:18AM ET

Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman said he will hit the recruiting trail Monday, the first day allowed by the NCAA. His prime target: Dallas. In his first interview with A&M reporters, Sherman said he wanted to make serious recruiting inroads in the Dallas area. Three A&M assistants will be assigned to scour the area that's become a gold mine for Oklahoma, Missouri and many other top-25 programs.

I wish Mike well, but if this is the lead story for College Truth & Rumors, IT IS A VERY SLOW NEWS DAY.

NEWS FLASH: AGGIE COACH LOOKS FOR PLAYERS IN TEXAS!!!

Report Offensive Comment

This is on par with University of Miami looking for recruits in Florida...
Sherman is doing one of two things, correcting a wrong from the previous coaching administration or trying to dispell the concerns that he can't recruit...

Things got tougher now with the arrival of June Jones.

Report Offensive Comment

June and Sherman will have to square off at HIGH NOON!

It's all about hold. And my Aggies.

There is good talent in Dallas. I mean Southlake Carroll is probably full of good D1 talent.

Time to cue the Good, Bad, and Ugly soundtrack

Southlake already has em roided up for ya.

Ok, so the Aggies want to recruit more in Dallas....I thought every Texas team was already doing that.....

Anyway, what makes the Aggies think that players would choose a sub par progrm over the likes of OU and Texas. 2 teams that already have a recruiting pipeline out of Dallas. I guess if they want the leftovers thats up to them. They'll never be anything more than an afterthought in the Big 12.

Report Offensive Comment

Yup, they need to change their image of being one of the dummy schools.

Shane, shut the trash up. A&M is an attractive program since it has arguably the best fan base in sports; many journalists, coaches, and athletes agree. Need I reminded you that Aggie recruiting has consistently been in the top 10 (even over "TU" and OU a couple of times) for the past several years, yet only hasn't produced substantial results due to poor coaching. ESPN analysists listed A&M as #1 in the following categories: College Football's Most Unique Traditions, Best Students, Best Stadium Atmospheres. So who wouldn't want to play for someone with those accolades?

Juice, "dummy school?" Then why did the Washington Post list A&M as the #1 university in terms of impact on society and the economy,
