Season in jeopardy for Knox

08:05 AM ET 05.24 | For Johnny Knox and his rehab, the horizon doesn't extend much beyond tomorrow. It's light jogging. It's riding on a stationary bike. It's lifting weights -- but not free weights, machines only. It's bringing back muscle memory. Beyond that, who knows? He said there's no timetable set for him to return to practice. Nor is there a timetable for him to return to games. He still clings to the hope he will be ready Sept. 9 when the Bears open against the Colts at Soldier Field, but he acknowledges he could sit out all of 2012. "It could happen, but I'm staying optimistic," he said. I'm not in any rush. This is my spine, the core of my body I'm dealing with. ... I'm taking my time on this."

Just glad he's okay.

Yeah. When you're that close to life in a wheelchair, you think twice about ever taking that kind of chance again.

Easily one of the most gruesome hits I've ever seen.

No doubt. I'm sure it would be a difficult decision for any young, competitive athlete, but I hope he does weigh all factors into consideration before he decided to play again.

I don't know if he needs to go there yet. But he better run down a long list of specialists who all say he's fine before he tries to play again.

Good to hear a young player thinking clearly about what's really important. Maybe Manning should seek his advice.

I'm sore just looking at a replay of that hit.

Glad to see he is doing better, take your time returning, health is more important than football

+1. You got alot of life ahead of you to enjoy.

You need to take care of yourself because the Bears and the NFL don't care about you. The hardest thing for these guys to do is put up money for the future because they don' t think these things can happen to them.

Problem is that the Bears may not take their time making a move to release him....cutthroat business

Knox is finished. Yeah, you have to admire his guts, but he'd be a suicidal fool to get back onto the field. That hit and what it did is the stuff of nightmares.
