New 'toys' give Niners QB that Christmas feeling

08:07 AM ET 05.24 | Forgive Alex Smith for celebrating gift-giving season in the spring. It was just an OTA in May, without pads or large consequence, and at decidedly less than game speed. But you could not fault Alex Smith for looking especially lively on the 49ers practice field Wednesday, as the sun shined and his receivers galloped all over the field. Randy Moss to the right. Michael Crabtree to the left. A.J. Jenkins and Mario Manningham ready to go on the next snap. "It's like waking up on Christmas," Smith said afterward. "You've got a lot of new toys out there, new presents." Moss, in particular, seemed to be in tune with Smith; at least 60 percent of Smith's throws in full-squad drills went to Moss, who dropped none of them.

New toys are nice...

How's Gore? Because he makes this engine run...

I'd rather have coal in my stocking than Randy Moss under my tree.

+1

I really think this year will be telling of Smith. With the talent in place, this should be on the QB now. Add on a certain level of stability; two years running with the same coaching staff.

But without early success, I expect to start hearing the grumbling from Moss. Additionally, fans will be calling for his head.

They all say that when new players come in , it's the stock answer

I'd readily swap my Randy Moss for a "Randy" Kate Moss.

Supposedly he's been on his "best behavior", but there's still plenty of time for him to complain about money, touches, the catering, et cetera...

If Moss hasn't added that one up already, he's already gone.

yes indeed, they may have picked up the missing pieces they needed...

Niners are already the team to beat in the NFC. If Smith can play just as good, or even better than last year, and have that defense of theirs to rely on... Look out.
