08:13 AM ET 05.24 | While the deadline looms closer to the horizon for teams such as the Twins, Cubs and Padres, more "sellers" will come into focus in the coming weeks. Brewers general manager Doug Melvin shocked the baseball world back in December 2010 when he acquired Zack Greinke from the Royals in exchange for Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain, Jeremy Jeffress and Jake Odorizzi. Contract negotiations between the Brewers and Greinke's agent, Casey Close, have been professional, but there is a significant gap in terms of length and dollars in their talks. If the Brewers aren't in the pennant race come July, Greinke will be traded.

The Brewers will be out of it at the trade deadline so Greinke will be gone. It is another example what is wrong with baseball the small market teams don't have a chance to keep big name players and the large market teams keep getting the players they want.

Melvin and the Rangers have a past history. The Rangers' clubhouse would be a great place for Zack.

Just because they may be out of it this season doesnt mean they should dump a guy who could be an ace for the next 6 or 7 years. These small market teams just have no shot and its amazing the Yankees dont win every year with all the money they can spend.

Be careful....ZG has proven that he will "check out" when things aren't going his way. Not speaking of when his anxiety issues arose....not talking that at all. But his last year in KC when he ADMITTED he didn't give 100%. I don't care how you feel about the club, you have a responsibility as a MAN to go to work and do your best. Thus endeth the rant.

He needs to stay away from big money markets that are filled with big pressure moments and high number of media requests. Greinke's is a good hitter and would have more value in the NL. I actually think Miami and Greinke's home state of Florida could be a good landing spot for him. The Marlins are only 2 games out of first place and they will want to go all out to win their division this year out of all years. Josh Johnson has been struggling with a 2-3 record and a 4.82 ERA. I wouldn't be surprised to see Miami make a play for Greinke if Johnson's numbers continue to slide or if there's an injury down the road. Still, Miami has to continue to play good ball and stay in the race to be considered buyers and not sellers. I would think that any deal with milwaukee would headline third base prospect Matt Dominguez who would likely replace a lack luster Aramis Ramirez and his .231 average.

He wasn't well liked in the Royals clubhouse. Greinke's last days there were filled with insults and a lack of effort. It wouldn't make sense or the Royals to give up a boatload of prospects for a four month rental of Greinke. They're still building for the future and aren't to the point where one player will help them make a deep run into the playoffs. In fact, the only thing the Royals might do would be to sell a veteran like jonathon broxton or Jeff Francouer (if Will Myers is ready for the bigs and the price is right).

I personally think this is a negotiating tool for the Brewers to get a deal done with Greinke. His time in Milwaukee has been mutually beneficial. He has performed well for the club and the club has allowed him to be his quirky self. He doesn't get hounded everywhere he goes, he doesn't get grilled by the media, and the fans love him. BTW, he's undefeated at Miller Park. That doesn't hurt matters either. I think Milwaukee will re-sign him to a 7 year deal and lock him down. Keep in mind that he could've gone to NY and refused to go there. Then again, I'm a homer and want him to stay in MKE so...

I think that Greinke would draw interest from any team. From the Yankees' perspective, I think they have sufficient veteran leadership and sufficiently solid management to insulate him from some of the stress of pitching in a major market. However, the Yankees need to consider the fact that they are much more than one front-line pitcher away from being a solid contender this season. If they want Greinke, they should save their prosepects and present him with an offer when he goes on the open market at the end of the year.

Then the Brewers might have the Braun, but, they certainly do not have the brains. They won't contend for anything if they let their best players go. You need more than 1 good player to contend. Corey (I wear my sunglasses at night) Hart is average at best.

How bout the blue jays, they have a lot of talent to send the brewers way, maybe throw adamlind and travis snider as part of a package.
