Hudler's days numbered in Detroit

08:26 AM ET 05.24 | Jiri Hudler has earned the right to test the market as an unrestricted free agent, and that might earn him a ticket out of Detroit. Hudler can score, but what else does he bring? He's not a great skater. He's not great in his own zone. He definitely benefited from playing this season with Henrik Zetterberg and Valtteri Filppula, two of the game's best two-way centers. In fairness to Hudler, he also earned the right to play with Zetterberg and Filppula by being consistent offensively. ... The Wings brought Hudler along after selecting him with the 58th overall pick in the 2002 NHL entry draft and welcomed him back after his season abroad. He has given them several good years, but I'd be surprised if the relationship continues.

Hudler has never won a one on one battle for a puck, never!

This guy needs to remember who took him in when really no one else wanted him. That is the major problem with sports today show me the money not loyalty.

Who ?

May 24, 2012  09:57 AM ET

He had a good year offensively, but he's not particularly...good? He should have had this season last year so we could have traded him and at least gotten something out of it. He's been a headache, a mystery and a headache. But he did have a game winning goal against the Pens in '08, so there's at least that from him.

The Red Wings will surely go after him. Oh, wait.......

May 24, 2012  10:02 AM ET

If he's a UFA, then won't he end up in Detroit anyway. If not, suppose he's headed to Dallas.

May 24, 2012  10:04 AM ET

Seriously? who cares...this guy should have been traded last year like santa said...we could have gotten some thing for him at least...not maybe a LOT...but something....let him go...no great loss. On that note....I love the Wings but give us something besides Homer and Hudler....like what's going on with Torts....lol

I've decided to put my 2000th into a Red Wings thread. Yah me, I know how to waste time!
