08:02 AM ET 05.25 | Maurice Jones-Drew, very likely due in some part to some unhappiness with his contract, is staying away from Jacksonville's OTAs. Our sources in North Florida tell PFW the contract extension that Jones-Drew is pining for isn't coming anytime soon. Jones-Drew, the 2011 NFL rushing champion, has yet to say publicly that his absence from OTAs is because he wants an extension; rather that information was revealed by head coach Mike Mularkey last week. Word is Jones-Drew likely will join his teammates June 12 for mandatory minicamp to avoid having his salary docked. We're also hearing that Jones-Drew is likely to downplay his absence, pointing to his preference to work out in his home state of California.

I guess he's settling for staying away from Jacksonville for as long as possible.

Why hold out for an extension? That team isn't going to win anything for a long while.

And I like how Mularkey stirs the pot. If a player isn't trying to say anything and take the higher road then why would a coach put himself in that position? The Sheik needs to take out Mularkey's tongue.

I meant until mandatory mini camp. It was just a slight dig on Jacksonville...very slight.

Because he has 2 years left on his current contract and wants to try and get a big guaranteed money payout this year as part of the contract extension while he still has market value. Who knows what his value will be after the 2013 season?

I would think "market value" would be a moot point since he has two years left on his current deal.

Another great guy who will play out his productive career on a nowhere team in a nowhere market, and finally get out only after he's too old to produce.

2 years left on his contract, why would the Jags renegotiate that, what is the shelf life of a RB in the NFL?
