Brees' folly: Overestimating his worth

On the open market, Brees wouldn't command the same bidding war as a Tom Brady, an Eli Manning or an Aaron Rodgers.

Brees only brought a SB win to the city when it needed it the most.

I bet PLENTY of teams would line up to give Brees what he wants.

I don't like this writer.

A lot of teams would be interested, and, as the saying goes, it would only take one team to make it happen. There's no way he doesn't get his contract if he's willing to go elsewhere.

Isn't there a salary cap in Football? I am not sure if they are trying to "low ball" him in NO, but there is only so much money you can pay one player per season and still try to field a competitive team.

If Sean Payton is the key , then how come when he was in Dallas Romo and that offense did not tear up the league? Plug in Rex Grossman and see how that works out..

Stated differently, "we know we can't win without Brees. So, we're going to try to undermine his confidence by saying he's a system QB." Maybe the Jets should trade Tebow for Brees?

'Brees is a product of the Saints' remarkable offensive system'. That's quite the dumb statement. All the successful qb's are products of their system. Manning was in Indy, Brady is in NE, Eli is in NY, Rodgers is in GB. When other qb's suck sometimes it's that the team doesn't have a system..or in the case of qb's like Sanchez...they just suck and no system will fix them.

Without Brees to execute the play, it is all just a theory , and as Jefferson Davis so aptly stated in his autobiography, " The Confederacy died of a theory."

How much would Miami or Seattle give him?

Agreed. If Brees isn't all that, let's see the Saints try to do better. There will be paper bag hats throughout the Superdome again in no time.
