There's nothing the Lakers can do to be on top again. They had a good run. Now it's time for them to sink... free falling!

I hope you're joking because you of all people are one of the most level headed knowledgeable FN'er!
Again, Jerry west resigned (the quit kind) in August 2007. Pau was traded to the Lakers on February 1, 2008!
While the Logo may have influence in the basketball world, I doubt any franchise would allow him to trade their star when he's not employed by them.

Do you really believe that?
Let's start with the fact that Bryant called the move a "donation" by Memphis.
Then let's look at what the Bulls were offering for Pau:
For Gasol and Memphis??? Hakim Warrick, the Bulls were willing to part with Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, Thabo Sefolosha, possibly Adrian Griffin and draft picks.
The Lakers gave up:
The expiring contract of Kwame Brown, rookie point guard Javaris Crittenton, two future No. 1 picks and the draft rights to Gasol???s brother, Marc.
West recruited his replacement and was close with the owner. What better way to avoid the appearance of collusion than have someone you hand pick, but not you, pull the trigger?!
Its Corleone level brilliance.

How about trading for Chris Paul while at the same time significantly cutting your luxury tax bill and putting your team in prime position to then trade for Dwight. Okay, say that doesn't count because of the terrible veto by stern. He suckered Dallas into taking Odom for a trade exception and a first round pick. Which then allowed them to get Sessions and Hill. Solid players. Oh and in the process dumped the salary of the over the hill Fisher and Mr 5 million to ride the pine Luke Walton. Getting Cleveland to take Walton should have gotten him executive of the year imo.
