The only reason to watch the Mets

08:10 AM ET 05.25 | A rainy night in the city put a damper on the already low attendance figures at Citi Field Thursday. All those who stayed to witness the Padres smack around the Mets, 11-5, deserved a medal. Maybe these are the people that David Wright plays for. Right now he is the biggest and best reason to come out and see the Mets play. Almost single-handedly Wright is making the Mets must-see baseball night in and night out. Johan Santana goes every fifth day. Wright is in the lineup every day. With a fourth of the season gone, his batting average is a robust .405. ... Wright is having an MVP-type season. He has a team option for next season for $16 million. There is talk that the Mets are working on an extension.

Typical BS story the Mets have been haning tough in games, the pitchers are doing O.K. This article is totally wrong given the effort these guys are putting forth, with some fun baseball.

...............he'll be on the Phillies next year, we'll give them Blanton who will be their #2 starter and Domonic Brown, the Mets will be happier than a pig in ****

And re-sign Oswalt as our #4, with Kendrick as our #5 starter? I can live with that.

In fact... I like the sound of that a lot. Although... I'd hate to see Blanton go.

They're what, 3 games out of first? They'd be in 2nd in most divisions in baseball. I didn't even waste my time reading the entire article. This snippet is enough to tell me the writer is an absolute moron.

For all the money problems and those long tern contracts the Mets have how can you not root for a team like that. But at the end of July probably their best player will be gone.

Reason to watch the Mets is to see their young talent. We all know Wright by now. good thing they moved in the fences, not really a surprise here.

How do you go from "there is no" to "the only?"

I'm sure the'll take good care of him at the Mountain Gorilla rehabilitation center.

of course this is written by a non Mets fan who has no idea that players like Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Ruben Tejada (before injury), Mike Baxter, etc. have been having impressive years so far. Not to mention the contributions from pitchers like Dickey, Byrdak, etc.

I agree. The author of this article is a disgruntled Yankee fan.

Very true Lou....the guys around Wright with the exception of Ike Davis (Ike's glove hasn't been affected) have been playing real well...young guys like Nieuenheis, Tejada, Duda, Murphy,Turner,Niese have all been a very nice suprise ...they are a feisty scrappy little team who don't give up.....kudos to Terry Collins and I hate to say it but Omar Minaya didn't do so bad a job after all...

Who will be your #3 after Hamels leaves for LA?

Signing Oswalt will push the Follies over the luxury tax threshold....so effectively, you'll be paying Oswalt 2-3 times whatever you signed him for. Forgot about Worley, guess he'll be your #3 next year, elbow problems not-withstanding.
