What Doan wishes he'd done differently

08:22 AM ET 05.25 | One of the headlining moments of Kings-Coyotes came at its very end, when Phoenix captain Shane Doan let his emotions get the better of him while shaking hands. But he wants to make something clear: "I didn't swear at him. I didn't say anything rude or disrespectful," Doan said of his postgame dust-up with Kings' captain Dustin Brown. "I just wasn't as cordial as I should've been." ... [Doan] claims Brown wanted to tell his side of the story, which only infuriated Doan even more. "Brownie wanted to explain himself, and at the moment, I wasn't ready to hear it," Doan said. "I said, 'Not right now. Are you kidding me? Not right now.' That was my expression. That's all I'm saying. ... And in that situation, I have to be in better control of my emotions."

The fact that he is an emotional player seemed to be his undoing at times in these playoffs.

He has several months to recover those emotions he lost in the desert.......

Tru dat. I read the full article linked to this story and I'm happy to hear that Doan realizes that he and his mates were tools after game 5. Sadly, the goaler barely backed off of his lame rant and nothing has been heard from Yandle who accused the refs of being in the Kings pockets.
It will be interesting to see if the Yotes will continue their excellent play next year or take a step back like so many upstarts have done.

I'll give him a pass; seeing what his teammates, the Yotes Org, and he have been through the last couple of seasons.....

He can start with apologising for the Greco-Roman faceoff win

I can understand how Doan would feel in the handshake line. He played his heart out, got kneed and lost the series. I respect him now for coming out and apologizing for the way he acted.
But as the saying goes: Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser.

I think they can, as long as Mike Smith can show that his excellent season wasn't an aberration.

I wonder about that too. I never thought he was that good when he was in Tampa

Yeah I don't understand that. Just for LA getting screwed in that last game, there was a trip when Brown possibly could have busted loose for a breakaway, a crosscheck to the back of Carter's (?) on the faceoff shortly before the winning goal, and I think another egregious missed call that I can't remember. How can one claim favoritism when the officiating is crappy for both sides?

methinks (thanks, Slapshot...by the way, I got about 10 of the classics yesterday for my kindle...canterbury/Shakespere Sonnets/Don Quixote) that messers Bettman and Fraser and Shanahan have some 'splainin to do after these playoffs

Doan's been a head hunter his whole career. He should pull up his big boy panties, and start focusing on his short-game and grip.

Not to mention that the handshake line is not the place for Brown to try to explain things. If he felt the need to explain anything he should have waited a day or two.

He needs to learn to channel his testicular fortitude in more productive ways. He looked like a raging bull in the rink at times. All the Kings had to do was wave the red flag in front of him and ... he came a charging! The Kings matadores got him.

Wow... having watched him for his whole career I don't see that. Hard-nosed yes, but not a head-hunter. And Brown's hit was borderline legal at best - cut Doan some slack, the season just ended in overtime and he was still in the moment. Kudos for being classy enough to recognize the mistake and own up to it.
