Cubs most likely to be traded

09:50 AM ET 05.26 | As hard as it might be to recall, the Cubs were in first place on Aug. 7, 2009. The Cubs haven't been buyers since that 2009 summer (such as their limited buying power was at the trade deadline that year). This year, they've been sellers since the offseason, and once the June draft is over in two weeks, they could be every buyer's first call. Officials from other teams say they had a list that ran 12 deep of players the Cubs made available at the winter meetings in December, including, obviously, those who have since been traded ( Sean Marshall, Zambrano, Andrew Cashner, Marlon Byrd, Tyler Colvin and DJ LeMahieu). Alfonso Soriano, Matt Garza, Randy Wells, Carlos Marmol, Jeff Baker and Blake DeWitt also made the list. All of those and more could wind up in trade talks within weeks.

Yea whatever, Theo...

Remember the curse of the Buckner. The team with more ex-cubs always loses the World Series.

Ryan Dempster is pictured, is probably the hottest of the commodities, and is not even mentioned in this "article."

Dempster could bring a nice load to the Cubs, if the right contender needs a pitcher. It needs to be a team with several minor league chips or young MLB players, a need for a No. 2 type guy in the rotation, and a belief that they can win now.

The Orioles are a candidate. So are the Blue Jays. The Indians are a possibility. The Angels could be in play. The D-Backs are maybes. Perhaps the Marlins. But the team that I like best for a deal could be the Reds.

Cincinnati has several young players, and you could see a deal coupling Dempster with Ian Stewart (to platoon with the broken down Rolen) to bring back young guys.

Epstein is busy working with his buddy Rahm Emanuel to swindle taxpayers of $150 million for the Ricketts' family real estate deals around Wrigley field. The fact that there is a baseball team involved is irrelevant. Fans continue to buy tickets to watch the 15 and 30 Cubs, so why waste time and money trying to improve the team?

In Hoyer and Epstein the Cubs have both the most expensive and worst front office in MLB history.

I've never put the pieces together the way you do. But oh my god...

Theo to Chicago = good riddance. He's now part of that Chicago political mafia trash. Buh bye, Theo!

Hey, if I'm running the Royals, I would definitely take a long look at Matt Garza. Sure, this season is almost certainly lost and Garza is signed for only 1 year, $9.5 mil., but the Royals need top of the rotation pitching and they'd have a better chance signing this guy long term if they brought him in now. Thy already know that the Yankees or any other high payroll team will outspend them, so bring Garza to KC and get him to believe in this youth movement. Make him a leader and then lock Garza down for five years or more. The Royals could easily send some good prospects the Cubs' way to make it worth your trouble. Heck, I'd give them starters Jonathan Sanchez and Luke Hochevar for a couple of bats and a bag of baseballs. Whaddya say?

Dempster over Garza, yes, since Dempster is more expendable. The Cubs, to me at least, seem to want to keep Garza. But I also like the Garza to KC scenario for some youngsters but not Hochevar.

The Cubs aren't going to compete for a playoff spot this season.
