Cash-rich Rangers may still be limited

09:13 AM ET 05.27 | The Rangers appear to have a considerable amount of cap space with which to maneuver in reconstructing for next year, but with the labor agreement set to expire on Sept. 15, it's anybody's guess as to exactly how much. Still, with Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan Callahan and Dan Girardi all eligible to become unrestricted free agents after two more seasons in what likely will be a more restrictive system, there is a limit to the moves available to general manager Glen Sather this summer.

Just as long as you're not sloppy about it.

Should still have enough cash to pay for a shooter tutor!

Gaborik Dubinsky and Staal for Nash. Then sign Weber.

May 27, 2012  10:53 AM ET

This was Larry Brooks, who in the article said the cap was going up like 8 million dollars, so that is how they would have the cap room. He also said a few players were going to be up in 2 years (Henrik, Cally I believe) so they couldn't sign long term deals to many players
I should have stopped after I said this was Larry Brooks, shouldn't I.

So you are making a 3 team trade getting Staal and Nash for Gaborik and Dubinsky, because I know the Pens and Blue Jackets both want a 3rd liner that can't score and a huge cap him in Gaborik. So is it Dubi for Nash and Gaborik for Staal or vice versa. And do the Preds get to keep Weber since he is a RFA or since the Rangers are going to sign him, he gets to be a UFA a year early to make life easier for Sather?

Everyone is always looking to deal Jordan on this site.

That makes it dumber. As much as I hate the rangers Marc Staal is better and more valuable to the Rangers then Nash. Nash has done what exactly. Collect money and never have to play a meaningful game. Plus let's say you loved Nash the Blue Jackets are going to take all that salary back?
If the rags make a play Columbus will want the cheap young talent. Think Del Zotto or Stephan or Kreider or McDonagh

Fantasy deals. Blockbuster trades seem a thing of the past.

Yep. Gone are the Harry Sindens and the Mike Milburys of the NHL. They were always itching to play the "Let's Make A Deal" game.

Between this one and the previous one? I'd say it's a tie.

It should be an interesting off season....it will be difficult for Sather to really do anything drastic...a lot of $$ tied up in Gaborik and Richards...I believe Del Zotto and Fedetenko are free agents...I personally think any additions will be from within....
